Lainey Wilson delivered the debut live performance of her starry-eyed new single on Monday evening (May 26) at the 2025 American Music Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Wilson took the stage in a stylish pantsuit with signature bell bottoms and a cowboy hat, plus a long, dramatic cape flowing in the breeze behind her. The powerhouse singer-songwriter released âSomewhere Over Laredoâ on Friday (May 23), and announced the deluxe edition of her latest record, Whirlwind. The extended version with five new tracks â including âSomewhere Over Laredoâ â will arrive on August 22, marking the one-year anniversary of Whirlwindâs release. Wilson wrote her latest single with songwriters Trannie Anderson, Dallas Wilson and Andy Albert, honoring the timeless Wizard of Oz ballad performed by actress Judy Garland. The âSomewhere Over the Rainbowâ nod blends with Wilsonâs tribute to her country upbringing and âwhirlwindâ lifestyle.
âWhen Iâm flying between shows I catch myself looking out the window, talking to God, dreaming, or even reminiscing,â Wilson said on Friday. ââSomewhere Over Laredoâ tells a story that speaks to that. Iâve always been inspired by putting myself into other peoplesâ shoes and telling stories from othersâ perspective, but Iâve found a new creative avenue with this one putting myself back into a pair of shoes that I wore years ago.â
