Lainey Wilson shared her rendition of a haunting ballad as October comes to an end.
“In honor of Halloween…I’ve had this one stuck in my head lately,” Wilson wrote in her caption on TikTok and Instagram on Friday afternoon (October 31). The Grammy-winning country star covered “Zombie,” a haunting, vulnerable ballad that alternative, pop-rock singer-songwriter YUNGBLUD released earlier this year.
“If I was to talk about the words/ They would hurt, they would hurt/ So if you were to ask about the pain/ I would lie, I would lie/ To fix my mind, I need time/ But it's running out, it's running out/ Oh, I know that I can't live without you/ But this world will keep turning if you do/ Would you even want me looking like a zombie?/ Would you even want me, want me, want me?”
Commenters applauded Wilson’s Halloween-inspired performance, hailing her “our generation’s Country Queen,” writing that her music “hits the soul,” “you can sing anything,” and wishing her a Happy Halloween. The cover arrives shortly after Wilson attended the 2025 TIME100 Next gala on Thursday evening (October 30) at The Current at Chelsea Piers in New York City. She said during a toast that “what I’ve learned is, you can’t rush the growing season. You just have to keep showing up, you have to keep nurturing your gift, keep believing that's what is meant for you, is going to find you when it's the right time. Stay planted, water your roots. Keep searching for the light, because when your season comes, people will taste the fruit of your faith, and the world will be a better place because of it.”
