Restaurant called out for tacky 9/11 themed food menu

A restaurant in Virginia is receiving backlash for a menu, entitled "Patriot Day 2022 Seafood Sunday." The Clubhouse at Aquia Harbour in Stafford, Virginia, advertised food and drink items for the 21st anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

For a drink, customers were offered a "Remember-tini"—a coconut rum cocktail with key lime cream and pineapple juice. A chocolate"Pentegon Pie" was available for dessert. The “First Responder Flatbread,” described as “crispy” and “oven baked” on the menu, also received some backlash on Twitter, such as in the tweet below.

Most offensive to some residents was the "2977 Chowder," an apparent reference to the death toll from the terrorist attacks.

The menu has been taken down and George White, the restaurant’s manager, shared an apology to the community’s Facebook page Tuesday night, saying his “intention was to bring attention to that horrific day 21 years ago” and that he meant to “honor those who lost so much as well as those who gave everything that day.”
